Helping to Build Community Radio in South Africa
by Tom Wright on May.22, 2011, under Uncategorized
Thanks to the British Council and Novas Scarman Trust Radio Free Brighton was able to welcome a group of ten community volunteers: Active Citizens from South Africa to our studio where they learnt how to establish their own community radio. They participated in many workshops and lectures here and across the city learning about community projects in the areas of HIV issues, literacy, growing vegetables and fundraising.
We all learnt a lot — both the Active Citizens from community groups in Brighton and their South African counterparts
In celebration of this we will be sharing parts of their programme as Special Interest Stories for the rest of the month of May and acknowledging the work of the other Brighton Active Citizen members as we go along.
We look forward to programmes made by our South African colleagues on the views and experiences of people in their townships on Radio Free Brighton in the coming months.
