This Week’s (22−28 August) Band of the Week — White Mink : Black Cotton.
by jackie on Aug.22, 2011, under Uncategorized
Radio Free Brighton welcomes our new neighbours in Trafalgar Arches, White Mink : Black Cotton, and recommends them for your listening pleasure as this weeks Band of the Week.
WHITE MINK : BLACK COTTON.. ‘Electro Swing versus Speakeasy Jazz’ is (firstly) a series of beautifully packaged double CD compilation albums featuring both rediscovered gems remastered from rare and original 1920’s and 30’s 78’s on one disc — versus — the very best contemporary dance-floor music influenced by these jazz-age (Electro Swing) sounds on the other. The albums have had massive popular and critical acclaim;
“Electro-swing’s first landmark moment” Mixmag
“HOT music to stir the adrenalin, and when we say HOT we mean SCORCHING. Music from the era that defined HOT. Album Of The Week.” Tunes.co.uk
“Yes, this really is a new genre and an exciting one at last” Time Out
“A sublimely decadent collection” Clash Magazine
“Perfect: Pick-of-the-week” The Guardian
You can discover more about them on their website here.
Band of the Week (15 — 21 Aug): Genius Collective.
by jackie on Aug.16, 2011, under Archives
Genius Collective are a seven piece Hip Hop / Soul / Funk band based in Birmingham, UK. Established in 2010, GC offer a Jazzy take on the Hip Hop Band concept.
With the band consisting of a fusion of Hip Hop heads, to classically trained Jazz musicians, their style blends honest, feel good lyrics with funk rhythms to get your head nodding, your mind thinking and your feet moving. Inspired by Bonobo, The Roots, The Bamboos and TY to name a few, Genius Collective aim to hit the scene soulfully with their distinctive sound.
