Stop the March for England presents: Resisting the New Racism
Saturday October 5th from 1pm to 5pm Brighthelm Centre, North Road, Brighton, BN1 1YD
An information and discussion event which explores ideas of national identity, migration and looks at the rise of new racisms, new forms of fascism and how to resist them.
Over the last few years, there has been a resurgence of racism and fascism both in the UK and Europe. The economic downturn and cuts to social services have been exploited by far-right groups which thrive on alienation within communities leading to mistrust, disrespect and racism.
This public event addresses one of the root causes of the problem: fear of difference and misinformation. We aim to raise awareness and facilitate dialogue among various community groups.
During the day:
  • Stalls
  • Re-making Picasso’s Guernica. A group of activists and artists from various campaigns and organisations are remaking Picasso’s Guernica as a bannerguernica-img_5117
  • Badges making
  • Kurdish acoustic music
  • Short films about anti-fascism
  • 4 workshops: British identity, UKIP, EDL and extreme far-right, how to set up and run an anti-fascist group
  • Plenary talk around anti-fascism and what it means
Come along and find out more about organisations and groups in Brighton and Hove.
Refreshments provided by the newly reopen Brighthelm Café throughout the day.

Brighton & Hove Eco Energy is hosting an Eco Energy Fair on 15 October at the Brighthelm Centre. The event will help the people of Brighton & Hove to be better informed about how they can manage their energy requirements more efficiently. The exhibition will be open from 10am – 4pm and there is a programme of short talks and information sessions, which are free to visitors. Entry fee is £3, £2 concessions. We have four speakers confirmed on the programme. They will be talking about renewable energy and giving people some hints and tips to live a more energy efficient lifestyle. At least twenty exhibitors will be exhibiting their products and services which are all designed to educate visitors or help them to make informed energy choices.

Exhibitors include energy companies, environmental charities and Brighton-based businesses. This year, we are short of volunteers to run the event. If you would like to help, please come to our next meeting this Tuesday 20th September, at 7:30PM, in the foyer of the Old Ship Hotel.
