Queer Anti-Valentines Night Benefit

For those of you looking for something different to do this Valentine’s, the Cowley Queer Collective are presenting a delicious 2 course candlelit meal with all your queer family, followed by DJ’s and dancing! Whether you’re single, a couple, or wotever, come down and hang out at the cowley, make some new friends and have a good time, without the pressure and comercialism normally associated with the day!
“This Valentines; escape from all the hetero-normative blandness of the city and other establishments on this night, and make your way down to the Cowley Club for an evening of queer lavishness!”
£5 (for the meal), open from 7pm… get there early!

“Born In Flames”, Feb 5th

Born In Flames (Lizzie Borden, 1983), the famous feminist cult sci-fi film, will be shown in a rare screening at the Duke of York’s Picture House on Sunday the 5th of Feb.
Exploring a vision of American society living with the broken promises of their corrupt revolutionary government, in a country rife with inequalities and told through the voices of two underground radio DJs Born in Flames is a must see for anyone with an interest in politics, feminism or film, and also for anyone wanting to see a gripping movie!
This screening is part of a larger calendar of events taking place in Brighton for LGBT History Month.

Candlelight Carol Service

Brighton LGCM (Lesbian and Gay Christians) and Changing Attitudes Sussex present an evening of carols and musicopen to all on Thursday 15th December at St. George’s Church, Kemptown.
Both groups are camapigning and working towards creating a more inclusive church, educating people throughout the country and stamping out homophobia and prejudice of all kinds from Christian and other religious movements.

Pride in Brighton and Hove Community Focus Group

Pride would like to invite interested parties to a new monthly meeting taking place On Thursday 8th December 2011 at 7pm St James House Community Room, High Street, Brighton, BN2 1RW.
The aim and objective of the meeting is to involve the community in its pride and share views and have involvement in decisions for next years event.

World AIDS Day, December 1st

December 1st is World AIDS Day, and to mark and reflect upon 30 years of HIV and AIDS there will be a candlelit vigil and reading of names from 6 til 7pm. All are welcome to come and remember lost loved ones. Space will be available for anyone seeking quiet moments of reflection.
New names to be read can be added to the list during the day at the memorial space in New Steine Gardens.

New Let’s Go Buy Trousers (LGBT) Show with Claire!

Radio Free Brighton is welcoming Claire and her new LGBT show; A half an hour look at Brightons LGBT scene, with interviews from those active in the community, debates, thoughts, analysis and of course, the best of LGBT/queer based music.
24 and Brighton born and bred, Claire has been out and proud since she was 15. A true geek at heart, she loves cooking, gigs, music, nightlife, cider, computers, technology and film. She currently lives in sunny Kemptown.
