is now open for RIDE24, the UK’s only 24-hour cycling endurance track event, to be held at Goodwood Motor Racing Circuit in Sussex on 23 and 24 June.

Organised by children’s charity Action Medical Research and operated under British Cycling technical regulations, the event is open to relay teams of four as well as solo riders.

Teams will need to use stamina, speed, skill and strategy as they compete for the coveted RIDE24 trophy, won by the four-man team that completes the most laps and therefore travels furthest in 24 hours. The winning team will also secure themselves a free place in the French 24 Heures Velo event at the legendary Circuit Bugatti in Le Mans and there are awards for second place and top mixed/female/vets teams.

Running alongside the team event, RIDE24 is also an official qualifying event for Race Across America (RAAM) solo riders, who need to prove they are good enough to take on the world-famous ultra-endurance cycling race. Or the event can provide a unique challenge for lone riders who want to put their speed and stamina to the ultimate test.

Event manager Sarah Stevenson, from Action Medical Research, says: “This is the ultimate in biking challenges and the only event of its kind in the UK, with teams racing day and night around the famous Goodwood circuit. It’s your chance to push yourself to the limit in an exciting, well-supported and unforgettable experience, and all for a good cause. We want this year’s event to be bigger, better and more competitive than ever so do join us.”

Cyclists participating in RIDE24 raise money to help fund medical research into conditions affecting babies and children. Research currently being supported by Action Medical Research includes work around meningitis, epilepsy, cerebral palsy and premature birth, as well as some very rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children. Last year’s event raised more than £80,000 for the charity.

There are several different entry options. By taking the fundraising team option, teams of four can enter for £240 and then commit to raising £1,300 in sponsorship. By taking the sportive team option, teams of four can enter for £1,000 with no further payment or sponsorship due. Fundraising solo riders entry is £60, with a commitment to raise £325 in sponsorship. Sportive solo entry is £250 with no further payment or sponsorship due.

For more information about RIDE24 and to register, visit the website www.action.org.uk/ride24. Alternatively, contact Sarah Stevenson on 01273 735788 or sarahs@action.org.uk.

Sunday 12th February at 11.00 till 14.00 at The Duke of Yorks

A special screening of the latest video project from the talented Court Farm Video Project, lasting an hour. There is an entrance fee of £3.50 for adults. Kids on the course go free. The money will be used to cover the cinema hire and publicity.

The Court Farm Project gives children the chance to get some hands on video experience. If your child wants to get into video film making and has no idea where to start, then this course is ideal. Its a perfect beginners course to digital film making and covers all basic aspects of video production. From story boarding a film, right through to shooting, editing and screening the finished movie.

In previous years we focused on documentary based films but last year we changed direction and made ‘genre’ based short fiction films (sci-fi, horror, thriller etc) with a view to screening them at the Duke of Yorks cinema. This is what we will be repeating this year as well.

We will also be shooting and making our own music videos as well, which has proven to be so popular since we started the project.

Now, the bad news. For the first two years we have been funded and have been able to make the courses pretty much free, but this year we have absolutely no grant assistance (once again) so am having to charge a fee for the weekend. Its just one flat fee with no hidden extras.

One weekend is £45 per child.

To begin with, on our playlist between shows, but very soon, on all of our top music shows as well. Be you metal, rock, indie, electro, experimental, big band, choral, pop or whatever, we want to hear from you, and we want to play your music round the clock.

We’ve always strived to be a radio pushing local issues and music, by the people, for the people. And it fits perfectly with our mission to be promoting you, the local musical talent.

So drop us an email at jaki.chase@gmail.com, or give us a ring at Under the Bridge Studios on 07799 564 620 or 01273 601 804 because we’d really love to hear from you and get you out on the airwaves!
